It seems that the traffic jams at the entrance to the Crimean Bridge can be forgotten for a long time again. Ukrainian special services have claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack on the building.
At about three o’clock on the night of July 16-17, a pair of unmanned ships filled with explosives successfully attacked the Crimean bridge. As a result, car spans in the area of the 145th pillar were damaged. Reportedly, jet skis were used as “drones”. Passage in both directions on the bridge became impossible. A married couple died in a passing car at the time of the explosion over the epicenter. Their daughter, who was in the car (probably in the back seat), was seriously injured. The railway portion of the structure was not damaged.
The Russian special services have opened a criminal case under the article “terrorist act”. Passenger car owners are invited to use the ferry service between the mainland of Crimea. The authorities also report that resumption of car traffic on the less damaged branch of the car bridge is not ruled out. Clarity in this matter should be made through a detailed examination of the place of sabotage by specialists. Cargo traffic to the peninsula and back is already being diverted along the land route to bypass the Sea of Azov – through Mariupol and Berdyansk. There may also be some cars from Crimea passing by.
Recall that since the beginning of the summer season, queues of hundreds of cars regularly gathered in front of the Crimean Bridge, caused by increased inspection of vehicles crossing the strait. Also in the media was once reported about tough special forces, combat swimmers and cunning means of observation, guarding the entrance to the bridge from the sea day and night. The penetration of two unmanned impact devices on the object by water suggests that to neutralize such an attack, booms and electronic warfare devices that could disable vehicles’ positioning and remote control systems were not (or insufficiently) used. Thunder boomed. The man, of course, crosses himself. But after the fight – with fists …
