By the end of the summer, most of the parking meters will disappear from the streets of the capital – Moscow authorities decided to dismantle them because drivers
For example, AMPP informed our Kommersant colleagues that 80 parking meters near medical institutions, train stations, shopping malls, markets and other socially important facilities where they are actually used will continue to work. The remaining 590 terminals are being dismantled: the corresponding tender of 11.7 million rubles is already in progress. The contractor will not only have to remove the device, but also put things in order in the place where it stood.
Last year alone, the maintenance of the terminals to the mayor’s office rose to more than 100 million rubles. And this despite the fact that only 1% of drivers use them. By way of comparison: in 2012, this type of parking accounted for 37% of transactions. The AMPP says that now almost all motorists pay with a smartphone: the Parking of Russia application (it is preferred by 95% of citizens), SMS messages, partner services.
Reducing costs and freeing the streets from terminals is of course good. But what about those who do not have the opportunity to pay for parking by phone? For example, if the gadget is discharged or left at home. In addition, all these applications and services have a tendency to crash and fail periodically. Previously, just in case, motorists had not the most convenient, but still an alternative in the form of parking meters. And now they have no choice but to receive an unfair fine of 5,000 rubles. Before the devices are removed, the authorities must first solve this problem…
