The symptoms of impending failure are painfully familiar: loss of engine power and unstable idling. This is especially true in the heat. Usually this happens due to various breakdowns of the adsorber. We wrote about it more than once, so we will not dwell on the device in detail. We only remember that the main task of the system is to collect fuel vapors that come out of the tank.
When the engine is running, they are sent to the injection system. And when it is dampened, part of it enters the vessel with activated carbon, where it is neutralized. A special valve is responsible for discharging those same vapours. If it breaks, it just wedges. Here is the engine idle speed and “float”.
And the fumes have nowhere to go and gradually begin to fill the fuel tank. The first “call” is a hissing sound when the lid is unscrewed. This means that the valve is stuck in the closed position. But it’s not that scary yet.
Much worse when it opens and sticks. In this case, it turns out that a large amount of vapor enters the intake manifold and forms a too rich mixture there. As a result, when starting the engine, it takes a very long time to turn the starter. Later, the intensity of vapor absorption decreases. They are replaced by clean air: the fuel mixture becomes leaner and the engine loses thrust. This is where the symptoms described above begin.
Some motorists believe that there is only one problem with the valve. Therefore, after the breakdown, the part is simply dismantled. Like, nothing will break for sure from now on. However, in this case, the tank itself is bursting with fuel vapors, because they simply have nowhere to go. To avoid “bloating”, some craftsmen take a thin drill and drill through the fuel cap with it.
It seems that the problem has been solved. Indeed, the behavior of the car does not cause any complaints now, but now a sharp smell of gasoline will appear in the cabin. Therefore, we strongly advise against participating in such “tuning”. It is better to buy a new valve in the store. So there will be less hassle.
