Personal Experience: Why I Will Never Sell My Chevrolet Rezzo
The transfer of the domestic car market to the shaky Chinese rails has practically taken place. While there is no alternative, just as there is no certainty that a car from the Middle Kingdom will be able to make Russian consumers happy for a long time to come. But what about the owners of already heavily used, but still strong foreign cars of proven and once popular brands?

He is sixteen years old. Or already seventeen, it’s hard to keep up. Year-old Chevrolet Rezzo Korean assembly with a purely symbolic mileage of 14,000 km went by accident. It was sold by a person close to me, to whom I actually advised this car. The first owner, who traveled for a year and was not particularly impressed by the talents of the modest “Korean”, decided to transform it into an SUV.

But the problem is that “Reksik”, as we affectionately call the old man in the family today, turned out to be of no use to anyone in the conditions of the aggressively growing both qualitatively and quantitatively the Russian car market of the 2007 model. There were almost no calls about the announcement of the sale, even after the forced and quite significant dumping by the owner. Which is understandable.

Rezzo didn’t come to court. A strange design, albeit by the authoritative Pininfarina, seriously cut off an active young audience. A kind of bubble, which, due to a misunderstanding, received a modest 90 hp “four” from Daewoo Nexia as a power source. The usual “mechanics” of a five-speed with clearly anti-sporting tendencies. Roller suspension, in the presence of a low crankcase, forces to sneak even on small bumps. A restrained interior with a minimum of options and unclear, it seemed at the time, brakes. In short, it is still a Bentley!

However, as a boredom and reinsurer, I saw the main advantage in the car: the risk of getting stuck somewhere far from home on Rezzo did not pose a threat to the owner. Any gasket for the engine, a timing belt or even some attachments, brake and clutch parts for such a car can be easily picked up in almost any regional center of the former Union. It’s decided, let’s take it. In addition, such a beautiful yellow Chevrolet nameplate flaunts on the radiator grille.

But this is perhaps the only argument for a strange purchase, which then outweighed the numerous shortcomings of the model, never played in sixteen years of operation. Rezzo is unstoppable. Even the clutch, which I replaced at about 100,000 km, allowed me to deal with it on the road, as part of the next scheduled maintenance.

“Korean” simply refuses to break, consumables and rare routine replacements do not count. He doesn’t react to trifles, the electronics are like new, they rust extremely reluctantly, and it probably makes sense to collect potatoes in the rag upholstery of his seats every year – they are so strong and durable.

Even taking into account the rampant rise in prices for the “secondary”, my Rezzo, despite the insignificant – 140,000 km – mileage and a completely accident-free history, today its price does not exceed 300,000 rubles. If an opportunity arises, the first person to arrive at the ad will most likely buy it. But I’m not selling. I will not even return it for 400,000, because such money is no longer considered an amount in our market. With them you no longer go to the trade-in site of a car dealer. Maybe only in Eldorado or Pyaterochka.

Judge yourself. After a little digging on the forums of the owners of Chinese new products three or four years ago, you meet a wave of outrage from people. It turns out that we, spoiled by the captains of the global auto industry, have completely lost the habit of even average, not just low quality.

After reading about the failures of electricians, electronics, endless errors in software, decor slipping for several years and other huge unrest, it is scary to think about voluntarily abandoning a car that for the second decade did not require more than 20,000 rubles a year for maintenance in a circle, including the replacement of shoe rubber. And what is the current alternative to “Reksik”? LADA or a Chinese sample for 2-3 million rubles? And what happens to him a few years after the purchase?

The “Chinese”, of course, have improved greatly in recent years. But I don’t want to get involved with the now ubiquitous “celestial” turbo engines, “robots” and CVTs, sorry. I do not believe! I did not believe it before, even when the seasoned VW and BMW were actively pumping this topic. In short, hold on to old friends. Well, I assure you, they don’t make them anymore. Of course you will have to moderate your ambitions. But what if it seems it’s time to compromise…
