While everyone giggled and teased the Chinese about the quality of their goods, the comrades from the Middle Kingdom did not waste time in vain. And now thousands of Chinese cars are driving on Russian roads, sometimes not inferior to leading European counterparts. But all these, as they say, are flowers, but the berries are yet to come. Our new friends waved to the sacred – to motor vehicles. And they did not just take a swing, but quickly went on the offensive, starting to conquer the two-wheeled market, and with a serious bid for success.
The eastern neighbors reasonably realized that the Russian consumer has little interest in disposable, unprepossessing “tyrchiki”: give our brother a powerful cubic capacity and stylish design. And they picked up pencils, because now not only car manufacturers, but also engine manufacturers have their own technical and research centers. So a whole series of Benda motorcycles was born with displacements from 125 to 700 “cubes”. And the AvtoVzglyad portal decided to follow a logical ascending order and, to begin with, took the smallest member of the family, the Benda Funrider 125, for testing.
Matte black, black alloy wheels, inverted front fork, classic profile, straight fit, oval air box, LED headlight, V-Twin. Wait, I’ve seen this somewhere before, it reminds me of something…
Precisely! Benda’s designers were clearly inspired by Harley-Davidson’s legendary Sportster, there’s no doubt about that. At the same time, they did not stupidly copy and paste it, although there is an exact copy of the famous “American” in China, which is a sin to hide, but they managed to create a rather original, sleek and stylish bike with symmetrical shapes.
Such a motorcycle is perfect for a novice rider with a driving license category A1, which, according to our laws, can be obtained already at the age of 16. And any girl can easily handle it, even the smallest, because the Funrider has a very low landing, as well as the center of gravity. And what: stylish, beautiful and quite sassy. And in the city it is more than convenient to ride a relatively light motorcycle weighing 180 kg.
If you’re a big fan of speed and sharp dynamic accelerations a la traffic lights, the Funrider’s dynamics will hardly impress you. With 125 “cubes” of volume, the maximum torque of the engine is only 14 Nm at 6500 rpm. The engine must be turned and the length of the gears ends quickly. This requires you to work very actively with your arms and legs with clear, well-coordinated movements, so that straggling motorists cannot overtake you.
By the way, the Benda Funrider gearbox has 6 gears, and its 15 “horses” can accelerate the motorcycle to 95 km / h. However, your correspondent, weighing 90 kg, even managed to exceed this speed limit and “set the baby on fire” to the coveted “hundred”. Moreover, this Benda even has a quickshifter for more dynamics!
On the other hand, a strong knocked-down and elastic suspension deserves special praise, which perfectly copes with bumps and tram rails on the streets of Moscow. Yes, and disc brakes confidently upset the motorcycle, instilling additional confidence that it will be very welcome for a novice pilot. After all, brakes, as you know, are life.
The grip is very light – even the most fragile lady can handle it without spoiling the manicure. With a very modest appetite, and the manufacturer declared an average fuel consumption of just over two liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers, the designers did not bother with the gas tank – its capacity is as much as 19 liters, which is very impressive for such a bike. However, as practice shows, the actual fuel consumption is always slightly higher than the declared consumption.
But in general, Benda Funrider can become a very real alternative to a city scooter or scooter, if you want to shift gears, and not just roll on a CVT, which most scooters are equipped with. Despite its modest size, Benda feels great in the city, it can crawl into every aisle and into every gap between cars. At the same time, outwardly it is a real and real motorcycle, and not some inconspicuous moped there.
The engineers also left certain elements to old-school enthusiasts – for example, the key in the shape of a pocketknife is inserted into the lock on the steering column the old-fashioned way and the turn signals have to be switched off manually by pressing the thumb. There’s something so “tube”, “triumphal” about it, that takes you back to the good old analog days.
In addition, the bike is almost entirely made of iron, not cheap plastic, and therefore looks pretty cool. It’s easy to read in any weather and the dash is round, although the tachometer digits around the perimeter could be bigger.
As the very first motorcycle for 1-2 seasons, this original “Chinese” can be safely recommended to young people. Well, and then move on to a more serious cubic capacity – in the arsenal of the Benda brand there are, we repeat, devices of 300, 500 and 700 cc. But more on that later.
