Summer ailments: why the engine is very hot at idle
A curious puzzle was thrown by a neighbor in the garage cooperative. The car – an average, not very used foreign car by today’s standards – gets very hot “idling”, but as soon as you press the accelerator, the temperature of the internal combustion engine drops. It would seem, where is the accelerator and where is the “cooler”! But the cause and solution of this disease is still being found. Read more in the material of the portal “AvtoVzglyad”.

A used car is always a mystery, and trying to fix it cheaper is quite a quest. During the years of total marketing and accessibility, which we only found out about after they ended, many skills were lost. And repairs were made only in two ways: SKD replacement or the purchase of a new machine. It’s time to wean: you just can’t buy a new car now, but start looking for a whole collection. We have to remember the old lessons, scroll through the pages of forums and, lo and behold, communicate with “colleagues” by brand and model. Otherwise, the correct answer to the question will not be found.

The prospect of becoming the owner of a LADA (which you don’t want, but you have to) has led many car owners – even those who don’t like digging into the car – to start “moving”. That is, to keep the car for a longer period of time and thereby cope with problems that were previously solved simply by replacing the vehicle.

Over the past 20 years, many have become accustomed to winding up a conditional “hundredth”, and then “throwing away” the car, conveying, along with winter tires and old carpets, many problems that begin after the “warranty” run. For example with the engine cooling system.

One hundred – one and a half thousand kilometers it becomes unusable and requires extensive repair. And the car can independently hint that the time has come: at idle, the engine temperature rises sharply, almost to the point of overheating, but as soon as you press the gas pedal, even when stationary, the arrow begins to drop. At first glance there is no relationship. But this is only at first glance.

A brief study of the thematic forum immediately suggested that the “colleagues” had already encountered similar difficulties. And there is still a connection between the accelerator and cooling: by increasing the engine speed, we increase the rotational speed of the crankshaft and camshafts, and with it the belt of additional equipment. Which, see, is directly related to the cooling system. Some models have a fan. All with splendour. Therein lies the clue.

Years of operation and low-quality coolant, as usual bought in a supermarket for a promotion and color, “attened” the impeller of the water pump for a few, which has since stopped pumping coolant in the right amount at idle, but ‘under gas’ was still up to the task. We disassemble and take care of it: half of the pump remains. Problem solved, invaluable experience gained. Next one!
