Why do the driver’s seats of Korean mass-produced cars break?
A new “disease” struck Korean cars: the skeletons of the driver’s seat began to break a lot on the Kia Sorento. So much so that either change or boil – the tube bursts at the base, on which not only the comfort, but also the safety of the driver directly depends. Why this happens and, most importantly, what to do about it, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

Korean engineers calculated a lot, but did not capture the features of the “Russian soul”: the desire to drive a car until it disintegrates into atoms, as well as an increased desire for tasty, but not too healthy food. As a result, a very interesting, previously unnoticed problem emerged on the super popular Kia Sorento crossovers – the driver’s seat breaks. It breaks in the truest sense of the word: the tube bursts at the base, dramatically altering the landing.

Firstly, it is extremely inconvenient to drive in such a position. But this is a small part of the problem, since the “new” position of the body in the seat puts an end to the correct functioning of active safety systems – such as the SRS airbags, for example. In addition, the position of the belt changes and the driver can be fatally injured in case of more or less serious damage. From the airbag itself, actually.

There are two ways to solve the problem. The first leads us to a teardown, where a pair of front seats – no one sells one driver’s seat – asks 35,000 rubles. However. However, our seats are heated and ventilated, as well as electric, so don’t be surprised at the price. But there is a second option – it is longer, but cheaper.

In Russia, there are already specialized organizations that are ready to replace a broken frame with a restored one at an additional cost. The issue price is from 10,000 to 15,000 rubles. Warmer already, but I want better. And this is possible! Literally for a “cap of crackers”, or rather for 8,000 rubles, a Sorento owner sent a car to a service, where he was promised to disassemble the seat, swing the affected element at the base and put everything back together to put.

But greed usually destroys, and not until eleven ace: during disassembly, the seat cover collapsed completely and irrevocably. However, the master is hardly at fault here: the car has traveled more than 200,000 km, so the fabric simply fell apart into separate fragments. New upholstery – another 6,000 rubles on the free advertising board.

Total: an extensive repair costs 14,000. Will the chair break again? It is unlikely – the thin original tube was replaced with a thick one, born in the USSR, so it will probably outlast the car itself.

The only question remains: was it meant to be, or is it time to sign up for fitness? For 245,000 km, the engine was sorted out with the car (brand wear in two cylinders due to the failure of the oil pump), an automatic transmission that died a natural death from old age, the entire suspension down to the bolt and several times, and now it is here’s the chair. And how can you not believe in conspiracy theories…
