Haval vs. Chery: Why Drivers Don’t Need “Smart” Chinese Cars
The agency JD Power, which once promoted highly suitable topics that really excite motorists, is now addicted, like everyone else, to cheap hype. In the light of its Chinese division, it unexpectedly gave a rating of the most “smart” cars. The AvtoVzglyad portal figured out what kind of animal it is so bizarre.

Once upon a time, car manufacturers measured among themselves how far their offspring could go without breaking. Some time passed, and the reliability of cars increased so much that it just became unspectacular to measure accident-free kilometers. Subsequently, the subject of dispute between the brands was the maximum speed that cars of a similar class can develop. This entertainment lasted long enough, but it also came to an end.

Everything was covered with an electronic speedometer as the general safety guards pushed through laws in the vast majority of countries of the world that set the speed limit. In few places it reaches 130 km/h, but usually dangles within 110 – 120 km/h. What are the race cars now? Unless in closed circuits, which completely rules out the massive participation needed to increase sales.

The last hope of car manufacturers was the acceleration time to 100 km / h – an absolutely far-fetched parameter, sucked from the finger of hopelessness. But for some time they managed to somehow maintain the intrigue, but the obvious artificiality of the subject of the dispute gradually reached the consciousness of the broad masses of cars. Something else had to be devised.

Ace for customers

Probably the JD Power rating was another touchstone in search of the bait with which to continue cheating gleefully…guilty, to treat drivers by giving them a palatable option to argue with a neighbor about the merits or shortcomings of their four property on wheels. But what did Woland say there? “You, Professor, your will, has come up with something clumsy! It may be clever, but painfully incomprehensible. They’ll laugh at you.”

In the JD Power rating, brands are rated according to two parameters: the satisfaction of owners with the work of “smart” functions and the prevalence of the same functions in the manufacturer’s model range. The list of “smart” includes 30 advanced systems and 8 basic technologies. Among them are built-in online navigation, voice assistant, on-board communication system and the wireless update function.

At the same time, researchers try not to focus on two points that emerged as a side effect of surveying respondents. As it turned out, the number of problems with intelligent systems has decreased, but the owners of every third car still face them. Wow – alone!

And if you find out, how will the manufacturer feel, with every third motor requiring the intervention of a specialist? Yes, and complain that these damn features are difficult to find out, drivers have become 2% more likely – now the share of those who are incomprehensible has increased to 36%.

The inventions of marketers

The latter is not surprising, because all these fashionable advanced systems belong to the evil one. The original purpose of the car was, and still is, to transport the owner’s carcass from point A to point B. And all previous attempts to generate interest in buying a car were based on this basic understanding of its purpose. Now it isn’t.

I recently came across this ad. Parents are invited to enroll their children in a new school, not because there are better teachers, and not because they present the material in more depth. No: it’s just built in a loft style…

And from the car they are trying to form something that was not originally characteristic for it – some kind of gadget on wheels. According to marketers, this approach can satisfy the “requests of the younger generation”, since all newfangled lotions are completely put aside for people of the age.

Tricks of the Evil One

In fact, such a statement is sheer cunning. First, young people all over the world are being purposefully weaned from the bad habit of owning real estate by buying all kinds of rental properties. This is also the case with cars, the ownership of which is gradually being replaced by car sharing. Secondly, the basis of the electronicization of cars is not primarily a concern for the convenience of the driver, but the desire to increase the price, for the most part offering options that no one needs.

And thirdly, cars filled with “smart” electronics pose a great danger to the owner. Having left the Russian market, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have disconnected dealers from licensed software and the cars have a good chance of turning into a pumpkin soon. Without timely maintenance, they can independently switch to service mode, which does not allow them to accelerate faster than 20 km / h.

As a result, it turns out that the rating proposed by JD Power has a very distant relationship with objectivity, if we evaluate it in terms of the basic functions of the car. For example, Chery, whose cars drive very well and pull in ergonomics, if not for the top five, then for a solid four with a plus, takes only 18th place. And Haval, who doesn’t possess the above traits well, is on the 13th line for some reason. Paradoxically, however.
