Five harmless car upgrades that threaten major problems from the traffic police
Many copies have been broken in disputes about the legality of certain harmless improvements to one’s own passenger car. But still, car owners choose them for convenience, beauty or just “for fun.” But sometimes such activity leads to serious conflicts with the law.

The most “inconspicuous” form of this kind of “improvements” to the car concerns the suspension. Off-road enthusiasts raise their jeeps to increase ground clearance and approach/departure angles in pursuit of greater flotation. And fans of “understated cars” cut the springs, trying to achieve almost zero ground clearance. Connoisseurs of driving “with negative camber” scoff at the chassis and levers, trying to get the impression from others that the wheels of the vehicle are about to spread in different directions.

Each of these ‘tunings’ is impossible without interventions in the design of the car. What is unacceptable from the point of view of technical requirements for vehicle safety. Any traffic police officer who is not fixated on finding voted “wheelbarrows” will impose a fine of 500 rubles on the adherent of the mentioned improvements under Part 3.1 of Art. 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses and issue a written order to eliminate the technical disgrace. After that, it becomes impossible to drive a tuned car. The offender is already waiting for art. 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Violations. According to the law, disobeying a police officer’s lawful demand is subject to an administrative arrest of up to 15 days.

It is curious that it is theoretically possible to “rake” serious problems with the law, even if you put patriotic signs on your car. For example, the image of the St. George stripe on board or a few such “ribbons” on the hood. A diligent traffic cop may see this as an attempt to use the color of an emergency car – the Ministry of Emergency Situations. And for this it is already necessary to deprive the VU for a maximum of 1.5 years.

Some car owners install additional LED lights on their vehicles. And not just at the front. To make reversing in the dark easier, they mount compact searchlights on the back of their car. Most traffic police officers turn a blind eye to these kinds of improvements. Sooner or later, however, a stubborn letter-eater in uniform will come across, who will consider an abnormal lamp an interference with the design of the car and launch a “hurdy gurdy” with a demand to eliminate it.

Keep in mind that, in general, any non-standard vehicle “body kit” visible from the outside – for example, a rear wing on the trunk or a “fly breaker” on the hood – if desired, can easily be equated with a zealous police officer with refurbishing a car. With the above consequences for the motorist.

Those who like to revive the color scheme of the body of a personal passenger car with the help of airbrushing or artistic pasting with colored films should also be wary. If it seems to the traffic police officer that the area of the pasted or repainted surface of the body exceeds half, Art. 19.22 of the Code of Administrative Offenses – “violation of the rules of state registration of all types of vehicles.” The fine for it is not particularly large: 1000-2000 rubles. But this raises a dilemma. You will either have to go to the traffic police and make changes to the vehicle’s PTS – to change the body color, or somehow remove the abnormal plaque coloring, or ignore the instructions of the traffic police and find yourself under the aforementioned should be article about failure to comply with a police officer’s legal obligation.
