The M12 “Vostok” project actually sets a precedent. The section from Belokamennaya to the city on the high right bank of the Teshi River was commissioned much ahead of schedule. And the only cable-stayed bridge over the Oka River is the first construction of this type for Avtodor. But what does this mean for the ordinary motorist?
Of course, reducing travel time. For example, you can now reach Murom in just over two hours instead of five. Let’s not forget the Vladimir highway: constant “population” and 60 km/h speed limit signs, traffic jam in Pokrov. No more problems from now on – straight from Moscow begins a flat road with a speed limit of 110 km/h. It leads to a large intersection, along which you can already get to the center of the old town.
It is important to note that the barrier-free “Free Flow” toll system was used on the M12. That is, there are no usual barriers there. The money is automatically debited from the transponder. Or, if you don’t have a device, you can pay later through Avtodora’s website or app. We drive under the frames without slowing down. All thanks to advanced machine vision. Eyes – more than 600 cameras with the ability to rotate 360 degrees and the same number of sensors. It is impossible to go unnoticed. And most importantly, this is all a domestic development.
— The software and hardware solutions used on the M12 Vostok highway are 100% Russian development of the telematics group. The entire software and hardware complex is in the domestic register and we are completely import-independent,” says Marcel Nigmetzyanov, deputy general manager of the telematics group, general manager of the company Unified Operator.
Another feature of the new road are the so-called MFZ, multifunctional recreational areas. A similar center, but much more modest, is currently only available on M11 Neva. The new one is located on the 173rd kilometer of the M12. Separation of traffic flows to improve safety and convenience, a unique approach to planning the area (it covers half a hectare) according to the principle “First rest, then refuel.” After parking in a large parking lot, we stretch our legs and walk to the two-story building. There is a pharmacy, a large food court, a general store and even a self-service launderette. There are also showers. And in the future there will be a hotel and a gas station.
By the end of this year, at least 16 similar MFZs will have been built, which should make the road even more comfortable. The less tired drivers are, the better for everyone.
Continuing the topic of safety, it should be mentioned that special nets have been installed along the entire length of the road to prevent wild animals from entering the roadway. So-called animal crossings were constructed across the highway for moose. Ecodocs were at the forefront of artiodactyl migration routes. This way you can be sure that a large animal will not cause an accident.
The cable-stayed bridge over the Oka, near Murom, deserves special attention. It turned out very beautiful! The asphalt absorbs water like a sponge: it falls into a drain called “Kazinaki” and passes through it in drainage channels. As a result, the road surface dries quickly and puddles do not appear on it. This naturally also has a positive effect on the safety of road users.
For the time being, as already mentioned, you can only reach Arzamas via the M12 motorway. But by the end of this year, the highway will be extended to Kazan. And when the traffic opens completely, it will be possible to “teleport” to the capital of Tatarstan in about 8 hours – instead of the current 13! We never dreamed of this…
Perhaps the only downside to this innovative ointment is the cost of travel. For the road from Moscow to Vladimir, a motorist will have to pay 1399 rubles, to Arzamas – already 2821. It’s scary to imagine how much a trip to Kazan will cost! Although there is still an opportunity to save some: holders of T-pass transponders (Avtodor’s own device) can get a discount of up to 15% as part of the loyalty program.
