Participants of the VIII Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), held in Vladivostok, discuss transport issues in the Far Eastern region. Russian President Vladimir Putin outlined strategic plans for the development of the country’s road network in his speech.
– Recently we opened a section of the highway from Moscow to Arzamas. By the end of this year the route will reach Kazan, and then on to Yekaterinburg and Tyumen. “Today I want to say that we will definitely continue this large-scale project: high-speed highways will run through Siberia, the Far East – to the Pacific Ocean,” Putin said at a plenary meeting of the EEF.
According to him, the idea is to create one transport corridor from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok. Putin explained that this will become the basis for the development of the country’s tourism sector, as well as better logistics connections between agricultural and production centers.
