The ever-increasing number of incidents involving individual electric vehicles is slowly turning into legal restrictions for their owners. The Ministry of Transport has drawn up a list of measures intended to stop the chaos on the streets.
The Ministry of Transport sent its proposals to the government to restore order in the SIM area. The agency proposes to adjust the traffic rules again in the section that concerns enthusiasts of individual electric vehicles. In particular, the Rules would like to add the terms “in front of a pedestrian” and “overtaking a pedestrian” – in relation to the SIM driver. And therefore prescribe the conditions under which this is possible and when it is prohibited. At the same time, the Code of Administrative Offenses proposes to significantly strengthen the penalties for electric scooter riders and their fellow SIM drivers for traffic violations.
They also want to add a list of responsibilities of the owner of a personal mobility device to the Rules. Namely: a ban on driving with a SIM card under the influence, the obligation to undergo a medical examination, comply with the request of the traffic police to stop, etc. The most interesting idea of the Ministry of Transport is related to the idea of forcing electric scooters, and others like them, to register their vehicles in some sort of state identification system. How this can be implemented in practice has not yet been deciphered.
