Ukrainian troops could be supplied with thousands of ‘brodinosaurs’
The Ukrainian armed forces suffered terrible losses of people and all kinds of armored vehicles during the summer “counterattack” on Russian positions. This is not a secret to anyone in the West. And there they are already slowly thinking about the question: how can they quickly replenish the depleted arsenals of the Ukrainians?

The result of numerous attacks by motorized units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the positions of Russian troops was a bewitching amount of burned “armor” that the Ukrainians received from the USSR army and supplied to them by the NATO countries. To ensure that the “Khokhol” continues to have something to bash its forehead against the Russians’ defenses, massive new supplies are needed. But the reserves of military equipment are not endless, even in the United States, which is in no hurry to send its Abrams M1 tanks to Ukraine. And you can understand them: the production of such combat vehicles was curtailed many years ago. All we have are inventories in warehouses, and we don’t want to waste irreplaceable assets.

There is also little hope for battalions and regiments of German Leopard 2s. Their production is limited to 50 pieces per year. And just this past summer, hundreds of armored fighting vehicles met their end in the fields of Ukraine. But it seems that a way has been found to prolong the “meat grinder” of the Ukrainian counter-offensive.

This is indirectly indicated by material published on the Japanese portal Yahoo. Its essence is as follows: NATO warehouses are full of very mossy armored vehicles that can be “fused” with Ukrainians. She has two important advantages: she exists and you don’t feel sorry for her.

First of all, the predecessor of the Abrams is mentioned: the American M60 tank, which was retired in the early 1990s. There are about 15,000 of them collecting dust in the warehouses! To send it to Ukrainian territory, it turns out, an even larger armored vehicle may be suitable: the M48 Patton tank, the hero of the Vietnamese company. This technology was written off as early as the 1960s. But, the author of the material believes, a total of about 12,000 such armored vehicles were produced, and some of them still serve in the armies of the world.

And it is nonsense that they are armed with a 105mm caliber gun, which is ineffective in today’s times, and extremely poorly protected compared to any modern Russian tank. It doesn’t matter, the material says: tank duels are rare in Ukraine. Usually they are used there for fire support of infantry and destruction of fortifications. Thousands of very strong American ‘old men’ could handle such a task perfectly. From this point of view, early modifications (first and second generations) of the Israeli Merkava main tank will also be suitable for shipment to Ukraine. In the absence of fish, cancer is a fish, the note’s author believes.

And in order to cross the Dnieper, the United States, in his opinion, should transfer its AAV7 armored amphibians to Ukraine. There are approximately 1,200 of them serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. It’s curious, but this “old man” has been in service for almost half a century and they do not plan to write him off until 2030-2035.

And we have not forgotten the fight against pesky Russian drones, which are a nightmare for back warehouses, repair factories and the locations of soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It is proposed to scrape the bottom of the barrel, repair it and send it to the last and decisive M163 VADS anti-aircraft gun, based on the M113 tracked armored personnel carrier. This complex is armed with an M61 Vulcan rotary machine gun with six cylinders of 20 mm caliber. This monster also managed to participate in the American war against Vietnam in terms of rate of fire.

Such vehicles may currently only be preserved in a few warehouses in the United States and in service with countries allied with the Americans. They were once written off because they were powerless against jet planes. But with the development of unmanned combat aircraft, the M163 VADS concept has a chance of revival. And Ukraine could become a new battlefield for this Vietnam veteran.
