People instead of cars: City authorities refused to return the Renault factory to the French
Although the agreement on the transfer of the Renault Russia factory to the Moscow government includes an option to buy the company back within six years, the French will not be able to return it to themselves – the new owners will not allow it. This was announced on the eve of the deputy mayor of the capital Maxim Liksutov.

As in the story of COVID-19, when the Mother See was given the strictest restrictions, in the case of the Renault plant, the Moscow mayor’s office ignores the decision of the highest authority. So, despite the fact that the deal with the French company – albeit very doubtful – was prepared and concluded at the federal level, the mayor of the capital Sergei Sobyanin attributed the fact of the “nationalization” of the company to himself:

– I have decided to transfer the factory to the city’s balance sheet and resume production of passenger cars under the historic Moskvich brand, – said Mr. Sobyanin.

On the eve of the “independence” of the capital from the federal government, his deputy Maxim Liksutov also confirmed and rejected the decision of the government of the Russian Federation. He, as they say, wrote in black and white on his Telegram channel and announced on the air of one of the TV channels that the French would not return their property.

“It is important that when we received the factory, the principle position of the mayor of the city was that we do not have a buy-back option from Renault, that is, this factory will always be Russian,” Liksutov said in a response. interview with Moscow 24.

Nationalization in all its proletarian glory! And it’s interesting what Sobyanin’s team will do with this “free” asset if the crisis of anything and everything – components, logistics – continues. Relying on KamAZ, which is announced as the main partner of the new project, is probably not justified, since Naberezhnye Chelny also experiences all the “charms” of the special operation in Ukraine.

That is to say, there can now no longer even be a question of producing cars with combustion engines (which, by the way, is completely incomprehensible), and even more so of electric vehicles. KamAZ “Kama-1” is far from being launched in a series as Sobyanin from the post of President of the Russian Federation. In short, as the AvtoVzglyad portal has repeatedly written, the former Renault factory awaits the fate of ZIL: of course, a sales office for another residential complex in Moskvich will soon be opened in this place (one already exists in Lobnya, Moscow region ).

… And that’s the curious thing. Sobyanin said the company would launch production of cars under the historic Moskvich brand. But the exclusive rights to the same brand from 2015 to 2025 belong to the same Renault. And it is completely incomprehensible how city officials will deal with this important nuance.
