As of today, Georgia has banned the export, re-export or transit of cars to Russia with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters, ‘hybrids’ and electric vehicles. Because Georgia does not have its own car industry, the new restrictions apply to vehicles produced in Europe. Let us not forget that earlier, on August 2, Georgians stopped the export of vehicles produced in the United States to Russia.
Note that until recently, cars were considered one of the most popular goods transported across the Georgian border into Russia. Although the volumes of this type of export are not particularly impressive. In the first half of the year, only 3,786 vehicles were imported to us via the Georgian route.
Experts are confident that the ban that has come into effect will have virtually no impact on the domestic car market. Because mainly premium car brands came to us via Georgia. Moreover, they recently started processing it through Georgia to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Azerbaijan. From there they are sent directly to Russia.
