Russian automotive group Sollers will begin production of a six-speed manual transmission at the ZMZ site. The company has already received approval from the Industrial Development Fund for a preferential loan of 564 million rubles.

As Interfax reports with reference to Sollers’ press service, gearbox production should begin at the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant in the first half of next year. The funds received will be used for the purchase of equipment for the manual transmission assembly workshop, the body part machining line and serial foundry equipment.

“The company will assemble and test manual transmissions, the intention is to localize the technological activities for casting and machining crankcases, and in the future the localization of all major parts of manual transmissions will be considered,” Sollers said in a statement declaration.

The volume of gearboxes in the Volga region is planned to reach 7,000 units in 2024, with subsequent growth to 50,000 units per year. They will be equipped with light commercial vehicles and Sollers pickups, as well as UAZ vehicles. In the future, the company plans to install manual transmissions on other domestic cars.
