A real threat hung over the traffic police to be left without patrol cars

The next planned purchase of new cars for the traffic police patrol service was jeopardized. Due to problems in the auto industry and the departure of manufacturers from Russia, according to the AvtoVzglyad portal, the traffic police can be left without transport.

According to the traffic police’s plans, the department should purchase about 2,800 new cars this year to replace the old ones. It is planned to allocate 4.48 billion rubles from the budget for this purpose. However, most of the Russian car factories that could produce the required number of police vehicles are owned by companies that have shut down or have shut down their operations in Russia due to a lack of parts. In any case, it is difficult to produce 2800 cars for the police now.

In addition, based on the amount of financing for the purchase of a car, it turns out that the price of each vehicle should not exceed 1.6 million rubles. This means that new foreign cars, including the “Chinese” are almost automatically excluded from the list of candidates to participate in this public tender. Only the VAZ “Grants” with “Nivas” and the UAZ “Patriots” with “Hunters” remain. For the pursuit of powerful machines of offenders, such a technique, as we understand it, is not very suitable.

Recall that in 2019-2020 about 8,000 Skoda Octavia and UAZ Patriot were purchased for the needs of traffic police in the regions. In 2021, the traffic police patrol received about 4,000 more Hyundai Solaris and Lada Vesta. Thus, the traffic police will be able to hold on to these “reserves” for another year or two. Although the difficulties of purchasing spare parts for the maintenance and repair of the fleet have already faced the department in full growth. However, if you don’t update it regularly, patrol cars will go down en masse, turning traffic police inspectors into traffic police officers on foot.

“Currently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade are working on issues with leading manufacturers of patrol cars about the possibility of manufacturing and supplying these products, taking into account the economic situation in the Russian market related to the sanctions pressure from unfriendly countries,” the Ministry of the Interior told Kommersant about the current situation.
