Military secret: Israeli Merkava 4 tanks burn like Challanger 2 in Ukraine
The attack by Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip on Israeli territory resulted in the humiliation of what was considered the best army in the region: the IDF. At the same time, the world received clear confirmation that modern Israeli Merkava 4 tanks are no more difficult to destroy than any other armored vehicles.

Several months ago, the media actively discussed various plans for the supply of Israeli Merkava tanks of different generations for the needs of the Ukrainian army. The topic bubbled up in the information field and slowly died out. Apparently because of the unwillingness of Israel’s military-political leaders to expose them to Russian weapons. After all, by that time the whole world had already enjoyed the video of the burning German Leopard 2 and the British Challenger 2. The IDF clearly did not want to put its very, very Merkava tank in the same flaming video series as the “German” and the British “.

But this little military-publicist secret was unexpectedly revealed by the Palestinians, who recently carried out a large-scale attack on Israeli territory. Last Saturday it was mainly demonstrated that the super cool Merkava 4 can even be set on fire from the old Soviet RPG-7 hand grenade launcher.

Judging by the video that went viral on the Internet, the tank was hit with a tandem shot, like the PG-7VR. It is designed to destroy combat vehicles equipped with dynamic armor – blocks of explosives specially placed on a steel body, which makes cumulative ammunition ineffective. In other words, the Palestinians could easily do without using a tandem shot. Because the Merkava 4 tank has no dynamic protection by definition!

The designers abandoned it and installed an active protection complex (APS). This is a system that should detect and shoot down ammunition flying towards the tank – from special mortars mounted on the turret. Whether the KAZ could not cope with the shot at close range, or whether the tankers simply did not turn it on, is not entirely clear. In the later videos – demonstrating the actions of tanks in the process of “cleansing” a populated area of armed Palestinians – it can be seen that the barrels of the KAZ Merkava 4 mortars are generally closed with plugs! Maybe the system is just disabled so it doesn’t shoot its own people, for example…

Of particular interest is also the popular video filmed by the Arabs from a drone that dropped a bomb on another Merkava 4. As a result of this attack, the tank caught fire! The size of the ammunition is clearly smaller than that of a grenade launcher, but showed comparable effectiveness. There is a simple explanation for this.

Merkava 4 has very powerful frontal protection: smart and thick armor made of layers of steel and ceramics. Largely because of this, the weight of the Israeli combat vehicle exceeds 65 tons. For comparison, the weight of the Russian T-90 is less than 50 tons. If the roof and sides of the Merkava 4 are also well armored, the weight of the tank may exceed a hundred tons, which is unacceptable.

As a result, a modern tank, with virtually the most advanced surveillance and fire control systems in the world, with powerful long-range weapons, costing many millions of dollars, turns out to be completely defenseless against an electric quadcopter costing several thousand “green”. Frankly, the Arabs’ one-time use of drones using Israeli technology is surprising.

I am almost certain that all military personnel taking part in the fighting in Ukraine – from soldiers to high-ranking officers – are now watching with amazement the “videos” of the IDF’s actions. Like fearless idiots. If we were to stand in the place of the Palestinians who attacked the Israelis, civilians who are now fighting somewhere in Zaporozhye, and with a hundred or two Chinese quadcopters in their hands, in a few days the Israeli army would be nothing but memories . Merkava 4 would burn in batches.

As well as armored personnel carriers, self-propelled howitzers and other equipment in service with the IDF. And Israeli infantrymen would quickly understand how damaging the habit of wandering in large groups through open areas is. Even if the enemy is several kilometers away.

If the Arabs are not fools, in the near future they will train hundreds of drone operators, buy Chinese quadcopters and start creating a real nightmare for the Israelis. And the latter, at the cost of a lot of blood, will have to learn to organize electronic warfare, equip armored vehicles with anti-drone canopies and master other wisdom “like twice two” known to participants of the battles in Ukraine.
