The Moscow Ministry of Transport, together with the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, is investigating the issue of identifying electric scooter users to finally find a working way to hold them accountable for violations of traffic rules. There is no technical solution to this problem yet.
As Parlamentskaya Gazeta reports, the Ministry of Transport has responded to a deputy request from the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children, Tatyana Butskaya, with a request to restore order with electric scooters on the roads in the capital. that they are working together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia on the issue of “verification and identification of user means of individual mobility.”
This is necessary to make automatic photo-video recordings of violations of the rules by owners of electric scooters, electric skateboards, hoverboards, Segways and other unicycles. However, according to the deputy, these measures are still not enough to protect pedestrians. Therefore, Butskaya appealed to the Ministry of Transport with a request to consider the possibility of making scooters noisy and limiting their speed on sidewalks to 5-7 km/h.
It is still unclear how all this can be achieved. First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Transport Andrei Kostyuk said in his response to the deputy that “the initiatives are relevant and will be taken into account when developing proposals for the project.”
