In Russia, the validity of discounts on traffic police fines can be extended

Director of the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Politics Anton Orlov proposed extending the validity of the discount on fines from traffic police cameras from the current 20 to 30 or even 40 days. He believes that, given the many nuances, not all drivers have the time to use it.

Motorists who have been fined for violating traffic rules can pay it within 20 days from the date of the decision with a 50% discount. The advantage applies to both the punishment that the inspector ‘issued’ and the ‘chain letter’ that came from the camera. In practice, fines are sometimes received by drivers later than twenty days. And ultimately, they are forced to petition the court, demanding that the discount period be reinstated.

“In this context, I ask you to consider the desirability of extending the validity of the discount on fines to 30 days if the traffic violation was recorded by a video camera, and to 40 days if the violation was recorded by a camera in a region where the offender does not have permanent registration and is traveling for tourism or other purposes,” said the letter from the political scientist to the head of the traffic police, Mikhail Chernikov, RT reports.

In his speech to the head of the National Traffic Inspectorate, the political scientist apparently did not mention the possibility of receiving fine notifications electronically and paying online.
