Davanulo: what to do if engine oil flows out from under the hood while driving
It is believed that if the engine oil level drops, the engine will certainly “swallow” it. But in three out of four cases this is not the case: more often the lubricant simply escapes through the sealing elements and flows onto the asphalt. And one day this rather lengthy process can happen very quickly and while moving. And then the fate of the car will depend entirely on the actions of the driver.

If oil does not flow from the UAZ, it means that it is not there. This is not a complaint against the legendary off-road vehicle, but this applies to any used car. And the more careless the owner is, the sooner he will see a characteristic puddle under the engine compartment. Gaskets, seals, sensors and other “friends of the motorist” tend to leak over time life-giving fluid, without which the engine cannot do without. Not immediately, and far from completely, but every leak is a symptom. Symptom of old age. All these “problems” are repaired, the rubber seals are replaced, the oil is chosen thicker and the car continues to drive. If, of course, the driver manages to complete all procedures on time.

If you don’t keep up, overfill the oil or feed the engine with an unknown fluid that is not adapted to work in our conditions, or to work in general, the saddest of all lubricant spills can occur: ‘davenet’. That is, under pressure, which in the engine is always greater than one atmosphere, sometimes reaching 4-5 atmospheres, it will break through at the thinnest place. A worthless filter or a seal that has been worn out for a long time cannot withstand the pressure and flies out, followed by the entire contents of the crankcase. At this point the oiler on the dashboard will light up. I noticed – thankfully. Well, there is no process for saying ‘no’.

If you drive for several kilometers without oil, the engine will simply seize up. It will bend the connecting rods, twist the bearings, deform the camshafts and maybe even crack them. The real “Hiroshima”, just go and restore it. It happens that there is nothing to repair – only replacement of all units is possible. Problematic, time-consuming and expensive. How can you avoid this?

The engine does not seize immediately. You can drive hundreds of meters on the oil residues that are present both in the ‘guts’ of the engine and on the cylinder walls without any consequences. But then you have to stop and turn off the engine. Assess the damage to the environment and your self-esteem and call a tow truck. You can’t do it alone! Even a kilometer from home, even ‘here is to the gas station, where there is coffee and warmth’. Tow truck only, service only!

If you respond quickly and correctly, everything will be solved by leveling the problem and filling in new oil. If you make a deal with your conscience, the price of a mistake will hit your wallet hard: an engine overhaul today starts at 120,000 rubles and grows exponentially depending on the make and model.
