In an interview with Sputnik Radio, Russia’s Honored Lawyer Ivan Solovyov said the attackers began sending messages demanding to pay off the debt for traveling on the toll road. The payment link in the message obviously does not lead to Avtodor’s website – the victim not only sends the scammer money for a non-existent debt, but also compromises his bank card details.
“Unfortunately, we still have a fairly high vulnerability of databases related to banks, pensions, social issues and car ownership information. When a leak occurs, people begin to receive links, especially artificially generated messages, that they supposedly have to pay for travel on the toll road,” Soloviev said.
Attackers cannot know who has driven along the toll road and who has not, but such drivers are certainly found among the total number of people who received letters, the lawyer says. Some of them believe the scammers and follow the link to pay. Soloviev advises that when you receive such a notification, you check the information on the official Avtodor website.
