The head of the government’s Road Safety Commission, Marat Khusnullin, has instructed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to draw up proposals by November 15 to tighten requirements for child seats and seat belt adapters. According to the traffic police, during the nine months of this year there were 13.5 thousand accidents in Russia involving victims under the age of 16, of which in 910 cases they were not wearing a seat belt or driving without a car seat at all.
As Kommersant reports, against the background of an increase in the number of such accidents, the authorities have decided to pay close attention to the Russian market of child seats and other fastening devices – boosters, adapters and similar accessories. We remind you that traffic regulations require that children under the age of 7 be transported in a car seat, and that children from 7 to 11 years must use standard seat belts, if their height and weight allow it. Violation of these rules will result in a fine of 3,000 rubles.
However, various seat belt “correctors and adapters”, which usually consist of a triangular fabric cover with a buckle, are very popular on the market. The reason for their popularity among car owners is trivial: they are several times cheaper than car seats (200-500 rubles), as well as “frameless car seats” (800-900 rubles) – this is a fabric backpack attached to a standard seat belt. However, these ‘devices’ are not capable of holding a child in the event of an accident.
