Putin will put up with anything: the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade has restored the Russian car industry to his honor
From time to time, important ministers and deputy prime ministers participate in exemplary meetings with President Vladimir Putin. For the sake of the television image and creating content for news agencies. During this type of communication, the president’s guests sometimes develop so much ‘varnish’ for reality that it even becomes somehow uncomfortable…

This time the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, had to participate in this kind of receptions. During that period, with a sense of deep satisfaction at the success, he reported to Vladimir Putin that everything: the Russian automotive industry had fully recovered. Presumably – after the fall of 2022.

— Regarding the automotive industry and woodworking, when you paid attention to this at the beginning of this year, these industries were not yet in the positive zone. Now that they have recovered, there is a good increase in indicators,” Manturov told the president.

The commander-in-chief was apparently satisfied. AVTOVAZ will really produce almost as many cars this year as in 2021. The Tula Haval factory also produces products. Let’s not talk about the UAZ in vain: it lived by supplying army equipment and still does. He doesn’t really need to recover.

It would be much more interesting to get acquainted with how Mr. Manturov managed to restore the factories of Hyundai, Toyota and Nissan in St. Petersburg. They recovered, right? And what beautiful (according to Manturov) cars are now being produced again by the Kaluga companies of Volkswagen and the former PSA (Stellantis)! Avtotor is also clearly thriving, fitting wheels to bodies coming from China.

And ask most domestic manufacturers of heavy equipment: where, for example, do bridges, gearboxes, electronic units and other important components of your original Russian trucks come from? We know it from China. The Russian car industry is in full swing!

It is not the Russian auto industry that has recovered, but its Chinese suppliers have effectively completely replaced other competitors over the past year. A true “recovered auto industry” could make most of its parts for itself. As soon as the Chinese “brothers for a century” suddenly turn their backs on Russia, not only Avtotor, but also AVTOVAZ, KamAZ, UAZ, and in general everything, everything, everything will immediately stop.

Because in Russia, as before, now there is no full-fledged auto parts industry. Both officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Russian car manufacturers understand this very well. And they realize that such a task on a national scale can only be solved through massive public investments. But its solution is still stuck in the conceptual stage.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is ready to compensate industrialists for the costs they will incur in setting up production of auto parts in Russia. But after they launched. But businessmen want to first receive government funds and only then start organizing the production of domestic components. This conceptual ‘push-pull’ between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the top brass of the Russian auto industry has been going on for a long time and there is no way out in sight. Which pushes the moment of the emergence of a full-fledged car industry in our country into the infinity of the future.

And we already have a series of production facilities of different sizes that assemble “Russian cars” from Chinese components. If Denis Manturov means them, then yes: our Russian automotive “Chinese industry” has indeed fully recovered. But what does the Ministry of Industry and Trade have to do with it?!
