It is better not to get involved: TOP-5 most problematic used crossovers
The desire to buy a crossover, and not a car with a different body type, can be a cruel joke for Russian motorists. Since most of them now buy used cars, and given the reliability of used four-wheel drive cars, things are not as clear as they seem at first glance.

The Russian secondary market is now growing for the simple reason that new cars cost exorbitant amounts of money for the majority of the country’s car enthusiasts. But even financially difficult times did not stop domestic motorists from longing for all-wheel drive. Crossovers of all makes and models are in high demand on the secondary market. At the same time, millions of car owners in the country, just a few years ago, when choosing a new vehicle, did not even think about its reliability. And now, when buying a “new thing”, the hassle-free follow-up operation comes to the fore.

But not all buyers, who are now forced to refocus from ‘new’ to ‘used’, remember this. And therefore they do not really delve into the issues of “fragility” of certain crossover models presented on the Russian market. But in vain. However, in Russia there are still no adequate mass statistics on this issue. Everything is at the level of “they wrote on the Internet” or “said a mechanic I know at a car service.”

Meanwhile, in the godless West, they learned to collect such data long ago. And it is no sin for us to use them “for free”. For example, the data collected by the American source iSeeCars.com, which regularly surveys tens of millions of American car owners. Fortunately, the operating conditions for passenger cars there are partly comparable to ours, and the model range of national fleets largely overlaps.

In this case, we are interested in the most “sloppy” compact (according to foreign classification) crossovers – outsiders from iSeeCars.com surveys on the topics: “The most durable cars” and “The smallest depreciation over 5 years.” Their results are ranked on a 10-point scale. The fewer points a model scores, the more ‘fragile’ it is.

The most unreliable crossover according to iSeeCars.com was the Subaru Crosstrek, known in Russia as the Subaru XV. He only achieved 5.6 points. To understand the “magnitude of the disaster,” we have to say that the most sustainably used crossover in the United States is the Honda CR-V with a reliability score of 9.

In terms of causing technical problems for the owner, the Nissan Rogue Sport, the American twin of the well-known Nissan Qashqai in Russia, was not far behind Subaru. He scored 5.7 points. Slightly higher in the “TOP of shame” is the Ford EcoSport. This small crossover is sold out in decent numbers among Russian motorists. The result is 5.8 points. It wasn’t very common to be overtaken, but the Jeep model seen in the sales ads was the Renegade. “American” passed the 6-point mark.

And finally, the Mazda CX−3 can be considered the best of the worst used crossovers in Russia. Although it barely had time to appear in the showrooms of the brand’s Russian dealers before the Japanese car industry left our country. The model scored 6.1 points.

If we consider the purchase of a used car as a lottery, then the purchase of the above-mentioned crossovers can be called a deliberately losing bet in it.
