The Ministry of Transport has tightened the rules for installing traffic police cameras

The Ministry of Transport has drawn up a draft with new requirements for traffic police cameras. Complexes recording the same type of violations should be installed no more than once per kilometer, mobile complexes must be marked with information signs, and regions must warn the traffic police about new cameras at least twenty days in advance. .

As Kommersant reports, the first version of a draft government decree has been prepared, detailing the technical nuances of installing cameras in accordance with the new law, which will come into force on September 1, 2024. It is currently being approved internally by the department. The document indicates that control zones of complexes where the same types of violations occur should be no closer to each other than one kilometer in populated areas and no closer than five kilometers outside them. Exceptions are possible “depending on the location of the accident concentration areas.”

Road services will have to install cameras so that structures and supports do not obscure road signs and traffic lights. If the complex is mobile, the control zone outside the city can be indicated not only with signs, but also with “information boards”, indicating “controlled conditions and traffic modes.” Such shields are placed at a distance of 150-300 meters in front of the control zone.

Regional authorities must inform the traffic police at least twenty days in advance about the activation of a new camera.
