The Moscow Ministry of the Federal Antimonopoly Service will monitor fuel price lists at gas stations in Moscow. If an unwarranted increase in retail prices for petroleum products is discovered, the agency promised to apply “anti-monopoly response measures.”
As TASS reports, Moscow’s Federal Antimonopoly Service has sent warning letters to the largest oil companies engaged in fuel retailing in the capital, to prevent an increase in the cost of fuel sold. “Oil companies were warned that if an unwarranted increase in retail prices for petroleum products is discovered, the anti-monopoly authority will take anti-monopoly measures,” the notice said.
The Russian government has previously taken systematic measures to stabilize the situation on oil products markets. For example, they made it possible to create sufficient fuel reserves, supply consumers with gasoline and diesel in the required quantities, and reduce prices in the wholesale and retail segments. And today, regional branches of the FAS exercise control over fuel prices, including with regard to the actions of oil companies to implement measures taken to stabilize the market.
