Why the transfer of AVTOVAZ to the state will eventually end the Russian car industry?

The intrigue collapsed: the board of directors of JSC AVTOVAZ made a unanimous decision to approve Maxim Sokolov as president of the Russian car giant. The AvtoVzglyad portal recalls a civil servant’s biography and publishes his obscenely loud promises.

Since 2004, Mr. Sokolov has worked in the administration of St. Petersburg, where he headed the investment and strategic projects committee of the city administration. There is a version that it was this official who attracted many serious investors, including Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai and GM.

At the end of 2009, the manager was appointed Director of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure of the Government of the Russian Federation, and in May 2012, the Minister of Transport, where he worked until 2018. In 2019, a graduate of Leningrad State University took up the post of Vice Governor of St. Petersburg.

Thus, the place of the “manufacturer” Nicolas More was taken by a federal official. How this will affect AvtoVAZ’s development strategy, time will tell. But Mr. Sokolov has already promised to “consistently develop technical competences and carry out import substitution”.

– The LADA brand will continue to develop and delight its fans with new cars, – said the newly created president of the Russian car giant.

As the AvtoVzglyad portal previously told, Renault is ready to deliver the CMF-B platform, on which the successor to Grants and the future Niva will be created.
