Why owners of Chinese cars will soon fall into “slavery” to official dealers
The boom in cars from China on the domestic car market, caused by external factors, does not yet particularly bother anyone. Everyone is happy that at least someone can replace the car manufacturers that left Russia. However, within a few years, this joy could turn into a bitter setback for hundreds of thousands of ordinary car owners in the country.

Currently, Chinese car manufacturers provide Russian gas stations of official dealers with easy access to their diagnostic systems, equipment, financial software and the like. But despite all this, serious problems still arise when servicing cars from China. It often turns out that spare parts catalogs contain data that is not sufficient for the actual state of affairs. There is also a banal shortage of sufficient parts for repair and maintenance of customers’ rapidly growing fleet.

— We are all used to the smooth operation of the after-sales and warranty service systems of American, European, Japanese and Korean car brands. Everything is worked out here, as companies have been playing similar “games” in foreign markets for a long time. But the Chinese have only just entered the international space and therefore cannot do so without problems. But they learn quickly and in three to four years everything will be fine in this area too,” says automotive expert Stanislav Svetozarov, Deputy General Director of Interlaken-RUS LLC.

But at the same time, he believes that the de facto takeover of the Russian car market by Chinese brands, which was launched in full force in 2023, threatens domestic car owners with major problems in the near future. The fact is that in the vast majority of countries any car brand is given the right to trade on the local market under the strict condition that it will provide absolutely any car service center with access to its diagnostic and repair technologies. Such rules of the game exist in many countries. Except Russia. Our legislation does not prescribe this aspect.

The brands previously present on the domestic market, accustomed to the practices of other countries, were not very diligent in keeping their own know-how secret from Russian unofficial gas stations. Chinese car manufacturers are by definition much more closed than their competitors and in this regard have not yet been trained by the laws of presence on international markets. That is, they will certainly not willingly share information about the maintenance of their cars with Russian “non-officials.”

– If our state does not now ensure the “landing” of Chinese car repair technologies in the Russian jurisdiction, in 3-4 years the owners of “Chinese” vehicles whose warranties have expired will be forced to be serviced only by official dealers. At high prices and of course using an expensive ‘original’. Since all other gas stations will not be able to repair Chinese vehicles – without access to diagnostic equipment, methods, catalogs, etc. of famous brands – this was the prediction that Mr. Svetozarov gave to the AvtoVzglyad portal.
