The release date for the new electric crossover Omoda in Russia has been announced.

As Omoda’s Russian office told the AvtoVzglyad portal, the brand’s first electric car, built on the basis of the futuristic Omoda C5 crossover, will go on sale in the first quarter of 2024. When the car appears in Russia, it will also receive a new model name.

For months in a row, Omoda representatives assured us that the electrified crossover, with which the brand would enter a new segment of environmentally friendly transportation, would appear on the Russian market at the end of 2023. However, something went wrong. Now they promise to release the new product no earlier than the first quarter of the coming year. Unless of course the plans fail again. Moreover: upon arrival in Russia the car changes name. And instead of the much-hyped Omoda C5 EV crossover, dealers will have an electric SUV with the E5 index, as the AvtoVzglyad portal was also informed by the official representative office of the Chinese sub-brand Chery.

Prices, model specifications and technical features are still kept secret. However, according to some reports, the E5 will be powered by an electric motor with an output of 225 hp. s., allowing you to change the first “hundred” from a standstill in less than 8 seconds. Yes, not a “gun race”, but – just a moment! – faster than the “related” C5 with combustion engine. Let us remind you that the most powerful version of the 150 “stallions” accelerates the car to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. However, 0.6 seconds is unlikely to help bring the E5 to the top of sales, because “electric trains” are not celebrated in our country. However, this does not deprive Omoda of the right to have an electric car in its product line because of the image component.
