When a little more snow falls from the sky than normal, there is almost always a “snow collapse” on the road in cities – “this has never happened before and here it is again”! At the same time, problems await the car owner not only on the road, but also when leaving the parking lot. We’ll tell you how to avoid more than tangible problems that arise when trying to escape snow captivity.
For example, today the entire European part of Russia was covered by a powerful cyclone. The non-black earth region and the northwest were covered in snow. And the governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, reported that such winter disasters had not occurred in the region for the past forty years. Authorities in the Capital Region report that thousands of devices are shoveling snow onto the roads. In fact, though, it’s either still not enough, or it doesn’t combat the snow where it can be seen by car owners who risked (or were forced by the conditions) to drive onto the road despite the elements.
The first difficulty that a motorist faces when planning to take a trip in the snow is breaking through the snowdrifts in the parking lot. If he is lucky enough to live where municipal snow-clearing equipment has already been able to run along the main highways, and tractors have roughly raked snowdrifts into the yards of tall buildings, the search becomes significantly more complicated. Because this useful activity results in a freshly erected snow balustrade of an impressive height between a parked car and the road.
Sometimes it is also flavored and enhanced with salt spray from passing traffic. You can easily push this obstacle apart with your bumper and you will no longer be able to get on the road. Hatchback sedans and front-wheel drive crossovers (especially Chinese ones) stalling in their attempts to break into the operational space are a standard sight in such environments.
Motorized citizens work together for the sake of victory over the elements. First, several people (for example, local car owners) jointly push a car to a place that is relatively free of snowdrifts. Ideally something with four-wheel drive. And then they use it as a tugboat, using a cable that “pulls” the remaining participants of the rescue cooperative to freedom.
Effective? Yes. Safe? But with this – a grandmother in two. The specificity of really heavy snowfall is that significant amounts of snow are swept under the floor of the car by the wind. Sometimes there is so much stuff there that it looks like the car has been lifted by a crane and lowered into a snowbank. In this case, it is stupid to push the car onto the road or pull it out with a cable: it is full of broken brake hoses on the snow, broken bottoms of bumpers, a bent fuel pipe, an exhaust duct torn from the car mountings and similar problems.
Therefore, even if you have at hand a good tractor or a “team” of strong migrant workers, before moving your car, you should carefully and as thoroughly as possible remove the snow from under it with a shovel. And also spread the parapet for the bumper. If these preparatory measures are carried out, most likely no outside help will be needed to rescue the “swallow” from “captivity.”
