So, another full-fledged “villain” with a lowering range, which in top adjustments, in addition to the middle one, can boast two more differential locks: the rear one, in the upper version, and the front one. Answering the question “what is it eaten with”, we can confidently say that this is a replacement for the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport that disappeared from the market. That is, a frame vehicle with a station wagon body, equipped with four-wheel drive on the part-time scheme, built on the basis of a utilitarian pickup.
I must admit that you and I are still poorly oriented in the hierarchy of car manufacturers in the Middle Kingdom. So for the sake of clarity, let’s clarify something. The Oting brand is represented in our country by Sinomach Automobile, a subsidiary of the Sinomach group. The latter is known in China as number 1 in the production of industrial equipment and as a leader in importing cars of the world’s leading brands into the domestic market. In fact, Sinomach is the largest state-owned enterprise, historically known as China’s First Ministry of Mechanical Engineering.
Oting Paladin is a technically redesigned Nissan Terra (Navara in the D32 body). In China, the production of this car is carried out by a joint venture between Nissan and Dongfeng – Zhengzhou Nissan, with which Sinomach has a 5-year distribution agreement. In short, if you are not already confused: we are dealing with a very reputable supplier, who, among other things, advertises the utilitarian Nissan SUV, which has been improved by the Chinese in the current digital way. And that’s just the beginning. Plans for next year include the appearance of two more models on the Japanese platform.
In the Russian Oting showrooms, which have yet to appear, Paladin will appear in four versions, including even rear-wheel drive. For this version, which costs 3,799,000 rubles, the simplest interior trim options and an analog instrument panel are available. In this case, multimedia support will be provided by a 10-inch touchscreen, while richer versions will have a 12-inch central monitor. The top modification costs no less than € 4,499,000. But in addition to prestigious interior finishing materials, it already includes a wide range of electronic assistants from the ADAS list and seven driving modes, including presets for driving on snow, mud and sand.
There is only one power plant: a 228 hp 2-liter gasoline “turbo-four” 4K31-TD from Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi, which develops 360 Nm of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available on all but the base trim.
The SUV will have to fight for its place in the sun with models such as the Haval H9, Tank 300 and BAIC BJ40. And a newcomer, if you look at it, has something to oppose. The interior of the car looks as fresh and fashionable as possible. There may even be some overkill in the shine, although we only saw the top modification. The seats are comfortable and electrically adjustable. The second row is spacious, the backrests of the sofa are tiltable, although the high floor (cost of frame construction) is unfortunately invincible. And the trunk is a real giant.
As the car moved, he showed us the famous Japanese training. With a minimum ground clearance of 210mm on the obstacle course, Part-Time’s proven designs have few competitors. The body geometry and traction reserve allow you to handle the most risky attacks. The off-road hardware operates smoothly, without jerking or strange noises. And the elasticity of the motor is enough to lift you from the bottom to a steep slope with confidence. The suspension articulation is impressive; unevenness under the wheels cannot be felt. I was pleased with the modern and simple mechanism for controlling the driving modes: the selector switch, which is located in the most convenient place for this.
In city traffic mode, Paladin seems to have minimal problems. The car does not suffer from ‘tractor disease’; it steers and maneuvers willingly. The manufacturer promises efficiency within the average of 9.4 l/100 km. In addition, you can use AI-92 gasoline. The engine shows quite “gasoline” dynamics, and good sound insulation and omnivorous suspension make the ride comfortable.
It should be noted that this was only the first introduction to the car. So far the result is quite optimistic. Let’s wait for the full test. He will certainly reveal some characteristic shortcomings in terms of ergonomics or equipment. Why, you ask, not in the design? But since it’s already about 30 years old, Nissan has done a lot of work on it in that time. They say about such cars: proven…
