Old science: why do they still install wheel arch liners in Russia?
When buying a car, the Russians immediately “arm” it with lockers, protecting the wheel arches from misfortunes on the road. This does not always look laconic and is often not even the intention of the manufacturer, but the popularity of the modification has not diminished over the years. What is the “magic” of grandfather’s attunement, says the portal “AvtoVzglyad”.

The average age of a car in Russia is about 15 years. And in the near future this is exactly what we have to live with: the new “Chinese”, like the LADA, are expensive, and the recycling fee for the mass segment amounts to hundreds of thousands of rubles. What kind of cars will the masses buy in this situation? The answer at first glance is second-hand. And in three out of four cases, repairs will be needed not so much to the components and assemblies, although that is also the case, but to the bodywork. Over the course of three five-year plans, the iron in our ‘rust belt’ has decayed. Unless of course you don’t.

Movil, pushsalo and other ‘homemade’ compositions are controversial. Especially when these “cocktails” begin to dry out, fall off and collect moisture underneath, significantly accelerating corrosion. In addition, in those places where sandblasting is constantly taking place and there is always water: thresholds and arches are at the top of the list. Simply put: you should not look for one mysterious, best and proven composition, but use a combination of measures. And the top, like mayonnaise in Olivier, they will always be: the wheel arch covers. If you choose them wisely, of course.

And here you can seriously “break the forest”: universal options are a solution only for “homemade” options. All this “cutting”, “leveling”, tightening with self-tapping screws is a mediocre idea. In general, normal fender liners in a decent foreign car are attached to special pistons in special places. Self-tapping screw “seed” – for the indigenous automotive industry. Since it has come to this, please lubricate the hole with grease and other protective ‘ointments’. The best fender liner is the original one, and if it is not included, it is made by “collaborators” for a specific model.

Next is the installation. We’ve already talked about the screws, but before you put the ‘cabinet’ in the right place, it’s a good idea to wash and treat the arch thoroughly. With due care, even a wash at home can help, but it is better to use a tool that supplies water under very high pressure: over the years, many deposits have accumulated and compressed in the wheel arch. They definitely need to be eliminated.

Then, oddly enough, Movil: the old Soviet composition will save iron from rye, and in the absence of direct exposure to water and sand it will last quite a long time. Now you can bet. Don’t forget to check for “contact”: it should be tight, but the wheels should not get caught. Even at the end of the handlebar.

Let’s be honest: 3 hours of measured work. Verified. No racing, no rushing and no smoke breaks. The asking price is about three thousand rubles for self-installation. And who does it better than the owner? It turns out to be very acceptable and relevant, especially with current prices.
