The AMO factory in Kaluga officially started truck production this morning. Instead of Volvos, Russian Urals were registered on the assembly line, but they will be produced under the Next brand.
As the Governor of the Kaluga Region, Vladislav Shapsha, reported in his Telegram channel, truck production has restarted in the region – the assembly site, previously owned by Volvo and which had been inactive since February 2022, is back to work.
The Kaluga-based mechanical engineering company AMO (Automobile Motor Society), from the Industrial Investments group of companies, has started production of large-capacity off-road vehicles and plans to assemble 50 trucks by the end of the year.
The plan for 2024 is to produce 2,000 domestic three-axle four-wheel drive vehicles under the Next brand. In the future, AMO plans to expand the range of cars produced at this plant, the governor noted, calling the launch of production the most important event for the region. State Duma deputy Gennady Sklyar noted that the main shareholder of the factory is Russian and the technical partner is a Chinese company.
