It could have been worse: summarizing the car results for 2023

The past year has not been very easy for the vast majority of Russians, although overall it is not that terrible. Yes, prices rose for literally everything – from eggs to cars, but we also did not go hungry and even actively bought new cars. So, if we summarize the results of 2023, we can say that the country has overcome almost all challenges and even made progress. However, judge for yourself…

Although, if we start with the sad things, the weighted average price of a new car was more than three million rubles, and that of a used car was more than two rubles. Spare parts have increased in price by 17%, car repair services by 25%. Prices at petrol stations have also risen: by 7% for petrol and by 10% for diesel. Road workers also “distinguished themselves”: Avtodor several times increased the cost of traveling on toll roads and ended the year with the icing on the cake: after putting into service the new M12 Moscow-Kazan highway, it charges motorists 4,500 rubles for a drive along this highway on one side.

However, there is good news. The Russian car market has clearly come to life: approximately one million new passenger cars have been sold. And although more than half of sales came from the “Chinese”, domestic car factories – mainly AVTOVAZ – managed to please their compatriots (suffice it to say that they restarted production of the LADA Vesta in Tolyatti). In short, we repeat that the collective West could not bring Russia to its knees, no matter how hard it tried. But will we be able to resist the evil machinations of our enemies in 2024?

The upcoming elections for the President of the Russian Federation give reason to believe that at least in the first half of next year there will be no serious upheavals, including in the automotive sector in our lifetime.

No, new vehicle prices will continue to rise, but quite gradually. It is unlikely that consumables and motor fuel will become cheaper. You shouldn’t expect any gifts from the gas station either. But overall, the year promises to be quite stable.

However, you can learn more about the successes and failures of 2023, as well as the predictions for 2024, in the latest episode of the podcast of the AvtoVzglyad portal, which you can find Here.
