The Ministry of Industry and Trade has published official sales statistics for new cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses over the past year. It turned out that the Russians bought a total of 1,319,351 vehicles in 2023.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, based on the results of January-December 2023, the market for new cars, trucks and buses in the Russian Federation grew by 60% compared to 2022, when 823,695 cars were sold. Half of the sales volume consisted of domestically produced cars. As for passenger cars, dealers transferred 1,056,397 vehicles (+62%) to customers, and light commercial vehicles – 104,958 units. (+35%), freight – 140,204 (+74%), buses – 17,792 (+19%).
The leader in the passenger car segment was LADA Granta (191,100 units), Haval Jolion (49,000 units) took second place and LADA Niva (46,900 units) took third place. KamAZ is the leader in trucks, followed by the Chinese Sitrak, Shacman and FAW. Among light commercial models, GAZ ranks first, and UAZ ranks second. The market for new electric cars amounted to 14,869 units, which is 290% more than in 2022.
