The tragicomedy with the release of the Chinese crossover FAW Bestune T77 under the LADA brand at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg has come to an end.
The batch of assembled cars never reached the dealers. AVOVAZ added the cars to its partners’ company fleet and kept a few for its own needs. In particular, the head of the automotive giant Tolyatti, Maxim Sokolov, personally drives one of the failed LADA X-Cross 5. Ordinary motorists will not be able to buy this almost Russified “Chinese”.
But does this mean the brand’s line has finally lost at least some of its SUVs? Not at all, as Mr. Sokolov told reporters today, the brand plans to produce an “SUV” on the LADA Vesta platform, as well as assemble some crossovers under license. And if their own “cross” will be widely shown next year, then as for the timing of putting licensed cars on the assembly line, there is no clarity: the auto giant is on a completely theatrical break.
