The Ministry of Industry and Trade is discussing with car manufacturers AVTOVAZ the idea of requiring the Chinese to install domestic electronics – both on cars assembled in Russia and on imported ones. And for this the department plans to develop a special scheme.

As Kommersant reports, the automotive giant Togliatti proposed doubling the localization points for some automotive electronic components on “Chinese platforms.” Manufacturers need these points to reimburse recycling costs. In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is considering the idea of restricting access to government purchases and preferential loan or leasing programs for “Chinese” assembled in the Russian Federation who will not have at least two electronic components from Russian suppliers.

It is true that market participants believe that this condition cannot be met for some time, as developing, deploying and testing new units is a rather lengthy process.

However, the ministry is willing to go even further and proposes to force Chinese car manufacturers to install Russian electronics on cars imported into the Russian Federation: ABS, engine control system controller, body electronics control unit and more. They want to implement this by supplying electronics produced in our country to China – as they are now doing with ERA-GLONASS units.
