The government has decided to make free travel on federal highways free for electric car owners this year. The benefits are valid on the highways M−1, M−3, M−4, M−11, M−12, the Central Ring Road and the Northern Bypass of Odintsovo.
Since last year, free travel for electric trains has been offered as part of the federal project “Electric car and hydrogen car”, put together by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov. “The experiment with free electric vehicle travel on toll roads, which started last year, was generally successful, with around 5,000 motorists taking advantage of the benefit and making around 315,000 journeys. The benefit will resume on January 19,” the cabinet press service said.
The government emphasizes that this support measure was one of the incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles in 2023 – the average increase in their number in the regions adjacent to toll sections of federal roads was 70%, and in the rest – 40%. In addition, the benefits contributed to a doubling of the load on charging stations and increased business interest in the development of suitable infrastructure on toll highways, the Cabinet of Ministers said.
