The Ministry of Transport of the capital reported on the installation of a unique automatic restraint complex. It ‘criminalises’ motorists for not allowing pedestrians to pass at tram stops.

Authorities in Moscow have announced the deployment of the first camera that monitors how motorists comply with traffic rules, allowing passengers on ground transport to pass. It was installed on Freedom Street. There, tram tracks are constructed in the middle of the roadway, forcing citizens to enter the “danger zone” between the sidewalk and the tram to get on and off.

At one of the stops on Svoboda Street, an automatic restraint system was installed that “shoots” to the back of cars. Fines will be issued to the owners of cars that drive along the tram while there are people on the roadway or while the banner ‘Attention, passenger!’ at the back of the electric car.

The fine for not allowing a passenger to pass on public transport is 1,500 rubles – under Article 12.18 of the Code of Administrative Offenses for “failure to give priority to pedestrians in traffic.” The Moscow Data Center promises to install similar cameras at other tram stops in the city.
