The head of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association (ROAD), Alexey Podshchekoldin, announced the results of an interesting study at a press conference in Moscow. It provides an overview of the regions of our country where they are particularly keen to increase the number of kilometers on used cars.
As the head of ROAD said, citing data from the Avito Avtotek service, most of the cars whose check revealed a correction in mileage are sold in the Krasnodar Territory – 24% of all cars sold are offered for sale. Slightly less often they change the mileage before selling a car in the Samara region – 23%, in the Chelyabinsk and Rostov regions – also 23% each, and also in Bashkiria – 23% of car owners there also change the mileage, in the hope, apparently to get some extra for their “swallow” more money.
In the Moscow region, the mileage turned out to be incorrect for almost every fifth car offered on the secondary market: 21%. They do not hesitate to correct the figures on the odometer in the Sverdlovsk region (also 21%), in Tatarstan (17%), St. Petersburg (also 17%) and in Moscow (the same 17%).
Moreover, the Road Safety Inspectorate has already proposed to the authorities to introduce criminal liability for inflating the mileage – and to introduce penalties, including prison sentences of up to three years. Corresponding changes should be made to the Code of Administrative Offenses and the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Podshchekoldin believes.
