The American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducted another series of crash tests, in which a dozen modern crossovers, including premium segment models, participated. And only three of the cars destroyed by specialists were able to demonstrate an effective level of protection for second-row passengers. Even despite the fact that cars regularly receive more and more active safety systems during modifications, which, however, often “glitch”.
Updated crash test rules require car manufacturers to introduce certain types of equipment that increase the safety not only of vehicle occupants, but also of other road users. And together with the improvement of the functionality of machines, the requirements for their safety are also becoming increasingly strict. For example, while previous engineers emphasized protecting the driver and front passenger, experts are now paying more attention to second-row riders, children and pedestrians who are at risk of injury from an “encounter” with a car. The AutoVzglyad portal got acquainted with the results of the latest specialized tests.
This time, experts from the overseas IIHS conducted tests on popular mid-sized crossovers, where the most unsuccessful was the American Cadillac XT6 – a smaller copy of the Escalade, which was not very in demand in Russia even when GM was still alive. So: during testing, the seat belts of this car turned out to be ineffective, which is why the dummies, who took place in the second row of seats under the guise of potential passengers, “suffered” multiple injuries, in some cases incompatible with life . These include: injuries to the cervical spine, chest and head.
