Among the cars imported into Russia last year through the parallel import method, Volkswagen and Toyota are leading. Throughout the year 2023, more than 60,000 vehicles imported into our country via alternative supply channels were connected to the ERA-GLONASS system.
As TASS reports with reference to data from GLONASS JSC, Volkswagen took first place in the number of cars imported into Russia equipped with SOS buttons – the German brand accounted for 21.9% of all cars and the most popular model was the Jetta sedan. The Japanese brand Toyota is in second place with 17.5%. Mazda (8.6%), Mercedes-Benz (5.6%) and Kia (3.8%) are clearly behind the leaders of the ‘parallel’ market.
Second place in the ‘model rankings’ went to the Toyota Camry (2,600 sedans), third place to the Mazda CX−4 (2,200 cars). Fourth place is taken by the Mazda6 (almost 2,000 units) and the Mercedes-Benz Actros truck (1,700 units) rounds off the top five.
European brands that were popular on the parallel import market also include MAN, DAF, Peugeot and BMW. Japanese brands on the list included Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Isuzu and Lexus, with ‘other’ brands accounting for 23.3% of sales.
