Top Russian officials continue to “master” the heights of the board of AVTOVAZ, over which Renault has relinquished control. Portal “AvtoVzglyad” provides details.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has released a message that the head of the ministry, Denis Manturov, has been appointed chairman of the board of directors of AVTOVAZ. The release emphasizes that he will work for free in his new position. Before that, on May 28, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin ordered the transfer of this post to Manturov.
Previously, the board of directors of AVTOVAZ unanimously approved the candidacy of the former Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation and Deputy Governor of St. Petersburg Maxim Sokolov for the post of president of the company. The AvtoVzglyad portal suggested how all these appointments could come back to haunt the auto giant Togliatti. Recall that in mid-May Renault transferred its share of the shares of AvtoVAZ – 67.69% – to the NAMI Institute subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The rest of the automaker’s stake is in the hands of state-owned Rostec.
At the same time, Renault practically donated its Moscow car production to the city authorities. The city council urgently renamed the factory Moskvich and appointed Dmitry Pronin, a taxi and car-sharing specialist from Deptrans, as director.
