OUR Embraer released last Wednesday the first images of the prototype, which will be alternative to helicopters. According to the manufacturer, the electric drone is a sustainable solution for mobility in large urban centers. The “flying car” follows the concept of eVTOL, an acronym for electric vertical takeoff and landing.
The personal vehicle drone has ten propellers, eight horizontally and two vertically, and will be used for urban air mobility services, fleet operations, and maintenance and support solutions. The project is part of Eve Urban Air Mobility Solutions, an EmbraerX (Embraer market accelerator) company dedicated to developing the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) ecosystem.
The first flight simulation was conducted in July last year. At first, the drone will need to be piloted, but with the 5th generation fly-by-wire system, the idea is that flying will be fully autonomous in the future. And to do this, Embraer is working with Atech and L3Harris on a concept called Urban Air Traffic Management (UATM) that guarantees the secure scalability of urban air mobility. UATM offers a control system that communicates with ATM (air traffic control) and UAS (unmanned aerial system) systems.

Embraer says UATM will reduce security risks, reduce air traffic control requirements, provide balanced airspace access, and adapt as aircraft move from voice piloted to autonomous flight. The system is based on two principles: the definition of airspace and procedures, and the exchange of information. The goal is to integrate all airspace users, including conventional aircraft and unmanned aerial systems.
This revolutionary on-demand urban mobility solution is designed to transport people across the sky like never before – EmbraerX
Taking into account the day-to-day needs of air traffic control, UATM establishes four operational services: flight authorization, flow control, dynamic airspace management, and enforcement.
The future of urban aviation is here. The project will still be improved until it reaches the market, but there is hope that by the end of the decade we will be able to transport in eVTOL.
