Due to the shortage of new cars, more and more buyers are turning their attention to the secondary market. He is full of offers and often tempting. We are of course interested in crossovers. Therefore, the AvtoVzglyad portal chose affordable SUVs with the most problematic engines. Keep this in mind in order not to repair the car immediately after purchase.

Let’s start with the first generation Renault Duster crossover. It had excellent gasoline engines, but the supercharged “diesel” of the K9K series disappointed. In a 1.5-liter engine, piezoelectric injectors die after 10,000 km. And over time, the high pressure fuel pump and pressure system fail. The engine was also erratic. It is best to change the oil after 5,000 miles, only top up with high-quality fuel, and clean the EGR valve every 80,000 miles.

Another popular crossover in its day is the Ford Kuga. Not only does it have a problematic “diesel”, but it also has a much more popular 1.6-litre supercharged petrol engine. Various failures of the cooling system often occur here, as a result of which the engine overheated with all its consequences. The PowerShift “robot” also adds issues, which turned out to be even more fragile than the first German DSG pre-selections, so there’s bound to be some shifting issues.

As for the Bavarians, in 2007 they made one of the most unsuccessful turbo diesels of the N47 series (volume 2 liters) and placed it under the hood of the BMW X3. The unit was distinguished by a large number of innovations, for which ordinary drivers had to pay. The engine is very sensitive to the quality of diesel fuel and in Russia this is a problem. In addition, the device suffers from constant overheating due to minor sensor failures.

The French “pleased” the Peugeot 3008 crossover with an EP6 engine. This is a joint development of BMW and Peugeot, which was shown in 2006. Again – the engine has good features, but the problem is in its reliability. The unit suffers from oil and antifreeze leaks, rapid wear of the timing chain and the engine is characterized by oil burning and coking.

We also mention the representative of the Korean auto industry – the SsangYong Actyon crossover. Now this model can be found at quite attractive prices close to 400,000 rubles. Don’t let this be misleading, as the 2-litre petrol engine has some serious drawbacks. Already after 50,000 km of running, the engine’s timing belt can break, which will lead to a major service. In addition, the generator and water pump are short-lived.
