In 2006, the Russian KamAZ and the American Cummins opened a joint venture for the production of diesel engines. The 6-cylinder engines of the ISBe series proved so successful that 90% of the KamAZ-65115 dump trucks were equipped with them! But recently Cummins withdrew from the joint venture.
Now KamAZ is forced to equip its trucks with the classic V-shaped “eight”, which is heavier and more voracious than the in-line Cummins. Therefore, the truck giant decided to choose an alternative option – it turned out to be the Chinese Weichai turbo diesel.
For reference, Belarusian MAZs have been equipped with Weichai units for a long time. In addition, there is a factory near Minsk that assembles such engines! Carriers praise the “heavenly” combustion engine for high reliability and power-to-weight ratio at low operating costs.
As for Kamaz, the first truck equipped with Veichai was commissioned by the automobile factory, the special equipment manufacturer RIAT from Naberezhnye Chelny. The car was sampled as one of the most popular – all-terrain vehicle KamAZ-43118.
Now the prototype is undergoing factory testing and will be sent for state certification testing in July. Hidden under the cabin is the WP10 engine, which in power is suitable for most KamAZ modifications.
