German manufacturer almost since 1961 This design approach is maintained in every model.. Just like the kidney grilles at the front.

Why is BMW insisting on this? Hofmeister Fold to use? Is there an advantage for cars? Let’s investigate it from the beginning.

The Hofmeister Bend was first used on the BMW 3200 CS and BMW 1500 models produced in 1961.

BMW 1500

These two cars were introduced at the IAA (International Motor Show) in Frankfurt am Main. According to BMW’s interpretation, the Hofmeister Fold is new It marked the beginning of the BMW design language.

The curve has become a characteristic design feature of BMW over the years.

BMW

The brand positions this curve at the bottom of the rear side window and at the top of the C-pillar. The crease is named after BMW’s chief designer in the 1950s. Taken from Wilhelm Hofmeister. As we mentioned above, Hofmeister first used this design in the BMW 1500 model in 1961.

Although BMW has offered vehicles with different designs over the years, even with kidney grilles that some may find very strange, it has always retained the Hofmeister Curve.

Because this actually symbolized BMW’s engineering philosophy. So especially when it comes to BMW, this is what I think about It was also a symbol of rear-wheel drive vehicles. The dynamism the curve added to the car’s design reflected the power and performance of these vehicles.

Of course, the reason for using the fold was not just aesthetic. From the BMW design team David Karper ”Thanks to the curve, a larger side glass surface is created on the door without the need to integrate additional glass for the C-pillar. It also provides a dynamic image. In other words: a sturdier appearance of cars without loss of aesthetics. He also summarizes the function of the Hofmeister Fold.

Will the brand continue to use this twist?

At this point we listen to Carp again. According to Karper There is no limit to the development of the fold. According to him, the Hofmeister Fold will be further developed and reinterpreted. So even if it keeps its place in BMW’s models, we seem to see different versions.
