Lithuania has imposed restrictions on the transport of goods from Kaliningrad to the rest of Russia. The list with the same restrictions is a 49-page document, which includes trucks and special equipment. The AvtoVzglyad portal found out how this threatens the Russian car industry.
Since trucks with a gross weight of 5 to 20 tons were subject to the restrictions, Lithuania’s sanctions limiting the transit of goods will deal the biggest blow to the Avtotor plant. After all, as you know, in Kaliningrad, in addition to Korean cars, cabovers of average tonnage of the Hyundai brand were produced.
In addition, especially since 2020, the company assembles the popular Mighty model in a full cycle, with welding and painting of cabins. Prior to this, Avtotorovtsy set up in a similar way the assembly of trucks of the previous generation – HD78 and HD35, which were in high demand among retailers and carriers.
In addition, the Russian-German Grunwald factory, which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, is active in the westernmost part of our country. This is a very renowned manufacturer of trailers, bodies and special equipment, which “makes quality German equipment, but with a focus on the Russian consumer”.
Now Avtotor and Grunwald’s products will have to be exported by sea from the Kaliningrad region, bypassing Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia via the Baltic Sea. And while ferry transportation is considered the cheapest shipping option, land transportation was a less expensive way to get equipment “from Russia to Russia.”
Incidentally, the aforementioned Grunwald often sent semi-trailers by sea. In addition, in May, a batch of universal container ships for an intermodal carrier … was shipped from Sweden in this way. In addition, the Scandinavians have even placed an additional order for the supply of container ships! But that is an other story…
