In general, sales of new passenger cars in Russia are falling rapidly, but the electric vehicle segment is, strangely enough, growing steadily. For example, our compatriots bought 1,119 “green” cars in the first five months of the year, which is already 65% more than in the same period of 2021.
Tesla’s electric trains are the most sought-after among Russians this year. The first place in the ranking of the most popular electric vehicles is for the Model Y crossover, which found 248 buyers, and the second place for the Model 3 sedan, which 211 people chose. The top five also includes the premium Porsche Taycan (131 customers), Audi e-tron (88 people) and e-tron Sportback (70 people)
It is important to note that the authors of the study, the Avtostat bureau, did not rely on data on sales, but on the issuance of electronic titles. That is, in reality, sales of “trains” are not growing – and why would it be if the few manufacturers who offered them stop operating in our country due to sanctions. Most of these machines, which yielded such positive statistics, were probably imported last year.
– Now they find their owners and register those electric cars imported at the end of 2021, before the abolition of preferential “clearance” (valid until December 31, 2021 – ed.). The monthly downward trend is already visible. And in the coming months, the growth of electric vehicle sales in Russia will decrease noticeably,” explains Sergey Tselikov, director of the Avtostat agency.
